Testimonials

"There is a great opportunity for everyone to get involved in robotics, even those not interested in engineering. My son Zavior competed on the robotics team several years ago at Discovery School on the presentation team and got to use his public speaking skills. This year, my daughter Sienna is using her natural enthusiasm and networking skills on the fundraising and spirit teams. Robotics allows everyone to be a valuable contributor to the team's success!"

"As of parent of a one current robotics student of 2 years and a past Discovery School robotics student who is still participating in it, I have found that not only is it a valuable experience academically but socially as well. I have seen it take a quiet child with a moderate interest in science and the mechanics of it and expand their love and desire of subject so much that they are now setting their future in this field of study. It allows these students to see what science and engineering are all about at a younger age. They are allowed to develop, experiment, create, and brainstorm with a team of students that are also interested in the same thing. Hands on learning takes place, along with trial-and- error process. The student has to use their current knowledge and their imagination to solve a task in a way that in most classrooms they don't or may never get a chance to do. Their creativity, imagination, knowledge, and research skills grow by leaps and bounds. Team skills like networkingskills, community involved, cooporation, and communication skills also greatly improve. They learn to work better both individually but also as a unit, as a TEAM. Without the robotics program, my children would not have develop the love of science and engineering skills they have today. This is an experience that you can see when you look into a BEST team members eyes. You see determination, motivation, passion, and a love for learning!"

"Dr. Burt brought BEST to our school. She knew the amazing opportunities that robotics had to offer our students. We have had students choose robotics as a career path after this experience! Robotics is an amazing opportunity for kids to really stretch themselves and expand their horizons. It encourages teamwork, collaboration, and offers them the opportunity to compete in multiple categories and create products that they can be proud of."

- Dr. Linda Clark, Former Principal

"Having Robotics at Discovery School is a "trademark" so to speak for the school. We are known to be one of the only elementary schools in the area participating and it gives us such pride knowing our students are competing against middle school and high school students.  It is an incredible opportunity for not only our current students, but for the alumni of our campus as well, as they return to lead and work alongside our DS Explorers, building relationships that stretch beyond our campus.  The collqborative efforts with businesses also brings in new stakeholders that would not necessarily be involved.  The Robotics at Discovery represents all that we want to instill in our students:  creativity, passion, collaboration, sciences and math (career readiness), rewards  from hard work and commitment, spirit, pride, exploration and discovery, perseverence, and thinking outside the confinements of what already is "known" to finding new possibilities and answers for our future.
